It's a Dull Day: Things to do when Bored
One of the worst things that as humans we suffer is boredom. Be it sitting at home or dawdling with work, it is so sudden and instantaneous that when boredom hits you, you just can only sit there and do nothing. Absolutely NOTHING! To be fair, tech has tried and made major advancements to find a solution to this perennial problem of ennui. We once had yo-yos, now there are fidget spinners, who knows what will be invented tomorrow. But for now there is nothing, except for maybe a few suggestions from a fellow sufferer.
Getting bored at the workplace is probably the worst for you cannot just get a mug of coffee and put up your legs on the table and switch on to Netflix (or can you?). I have discovered a few good habits and a few other good things to while away one of those lackadaisical moments of between 9 to 5.
It is not that rare that you find nothing to talk about when you are out with friends. You may be childhood buddies, but boredom is a sneaky one. Here are some tips to start with.
Work is boring, so do these things instead
Getting bored at the workplace is probably the worst for you cannot just get a mug of coffee and put up your legs on the table and switch on to Netflix (or can you?). I have discovered a few good habits and a few other good things to while away one of those lackadaisical moments of between 9 to 5.
1. Clean up your mail: No one would suspect a thing! Laze away as you click one item after and send them to the trash. You might come across some interesting spam mails along the way
2. Open a blog: Writing down things when you are bored is one of the easiest things to get back to doing something productive. Once you get the hang of lazily typing down your gadfly thoughts, you are sometimes inspired to get back to work. This is one way where you inspire yourself while pretending to be completely useless. (However I am going nowhere till I finish this one!)
3. But what if there's no net!: Then you seriously need to consider a change. Look up your resume (I hope you keep one in your drive) and decide if something needs to be added, clean up your work space, organize those papers and clips and make the occasional impression, DON'T make that call you have been putting off for ages but think about what you are going to say when you eventually make the call, and maybe remind yourself to keep a few offline games in your phone for times like this.
4. Get a cup of coffee or a drink of water: Walking around a bit helps always. You may find someone accompanying you and even if you hate that person, say hello 'cause being nice also helps. While you are at it, get an early lunch. (Do you get lunch breaks?)
Look who came with the friend!
It is not that rare that you find nothing to talk about when you are out with friends. You may be childhood buddies, but boredom is a sneaky one. Here are some tips to start with.
1. Instagram that shit!: Almighty how I love that app! Instagram may or may not bring out the artist in you but it will definitely make your friends share opinions. You can take a picture of anything, food, slippers, selfie, groupfie (??), whatever there is in front, and you have a ready-to-use-equipped-with-set-reactions discussion about filters. Remember, there's nothing called too many uploads.
2. Ordering more food: And while you are it, decide to watch a movie.
3. Leave: I am going to be honest with this one. You cannot stay with your friends if you are bored. Friends are the ultimate solution to escape the very thing. There's so much to talk about: food, sports, TV, movies, songs, Linkin Park's recent tragedy, the fate of the world, why the answer is 42 and does it mean we all get to be fat or just die early, and some million other things. My friend and I usually watch Last Week Tonight when we are bored.
Finally, it's just you and dullness
Watch trailers and ads if you are at home.
Browse through memes in Facebook or Imgur and have a laugh
Never leave Facebook as you scroll down one video after another, aww-dorable pets, Tasty recipe videos, and even those stupid funny videos. Choices are endless.
Read articles online. I really enjoy those found in New York Times.
Look around you and be judgmental about everybody.
Eat. Have a drink of water. Sleep.
Simply said you can do whatever you want.
Peace!
